Ogallala is the largest community in the Lake McConaughy area.  It is located nine miles south of Kingsley Dam on Hwy 61 at the crossroads of I-80/Highway 30 and Highways 26/61.

Ogallala offers nearly every service desired by visitors to Lake McConaughy including numerous motels, restaurants, service stations and stores providing all types of goods and services.  Sixteen churches offer spiritual services to area visitors.  Ogallala has the newest hospital between Denver and Omaha staffed with medical professionals to handle any emergency.  Ogallala also has a modern airport offering full service to visitors flying into the area.
