This campground is named in honor of the American Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus Leucocephalus), a common visitor to the area particularly in the winter.  The majestic bird represents a true success story in wildlife management, as careful conservation brought numbers back from the brink of extinction to current populations.  In 1994, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officially removed the American Bald Eagle from the endangered species list.

This area has become a particular favorite of one such bird.  Local residents have observed this eagle perched nearby, and many have their own stories inspired by the presence of our national symbol.
